Answering your questions related to unfairness
Unfairness can be hard to define yet everyone recognizes it and is impacted by it. People’s judgement on what is unfair is based on their personal beliefs, values and experience. Everything makes sense in some context - one person’s fairness is another person’s unfairness. Even when we recognize unfairness , we may feel powerless to change it. The problem is complex, ‘systemic’, with no single cause. Most people recognise the unfairness of the gender pay differentials, and the disproportionate impact the richest 1% have on the planet but there are many more examples of unfairness to found at all levels, both locally and globally and in all walks of life. • The Fairness Forum aims to shine a light on unfairness, calling it out wherever we find it
Why is unfairness so entrenched?
Right now we have a responsibility to our children and their children to move towards a world where unfairness is unacceptable. We are sure that IF we had a fairer world THEN it would be a better world. And IF we can challenge unfairness, THEN decision making will be fairer and lead to fairer outcomes. We don’t pretend to have all the answers but we are convinced there is strength in numbers. •All change begins with the first step and so we invite you to join us and make our voices heard

What is unfairness?
The world has seen massive exponential change with the concentration of wealth and power into the hands of a largely unaccountable elite. Unfairness is rife and when we look at our world, we see unfairness all around. And yet there is a lack of awareness and action in dealing with unfairness and there seemingly no political will to bring about change – just political won’t! If no action is taken, hope for a fairer world continues to decline leading to an even more unfair world. • The Fairness Forum believes that change can only be achieved when unfairness is taken into consideration in all important decisions that impact our world economically, societally, politically and environmentally.
What can be done to shape a better and
fairer world for future generations?
Is it possible
to make
the world
a fairer place?
In order to have a planet that thrives economically, societally, politically and environmentally, the Fairness Forum sees the need for action in three critical areas. Firstly, we want to increase general awareness about the magnitude of the problem and the urgency of doing something about it. Secondly, we believe that each of us must acknowledge our personal responsibility for action in no longer tolerating unfairness. Thirdly and perhaps most importantly, we aim over time to identify strategies for the biggest problems and influence those who could – if they chose – do something about unfairness. •The Fairness Forum believes that the actions of a few can become contagious and lead to widespread change.
The question “Is that fair?” can be used to challenge decisions which have already been taken, or situations which already exist. By consistently asking this question and holding decision-makers accountable, this challenge can rapidly find its way into the decision-making process. We need support to create a tipping point by leveraging our connections, establishing hubs of like-minded people and spreading the message. •The Fairness Forum advocates the use of the hashtag #IsThatFair? to make our message and purpose resonate.
